Green Campus University Housing
Year: 2008-2012 - Location: Pavia, Italy
Energy efficient residential buildings composed by 326 flats for university students, underground parking, park and self-preserving lake; 167.000 ft²
The project is characterized by experimental technologies (multi-storey PTC columns made with vibration-compressed concrete, 25 x 25 cm) and by innovative solutions for systems addressed to energy saving and environmental sustainability, among them multipurpose water-water heat pumps for winter heating, summer cooling and sanitary hot water production. The 326 accommodation units, addressed to students and university staff, are all equipped with 1 or 2 beds, induction cookers, solar screens, accounting switchboards.
The architecture has a rigorous external aspect with brick rainscreen cladding, whereas the volume and pathways complexity is emphasized inside by the bright chromatic language. The design of green spaces, with an artificial self-preserving lake, is in line with the enhancement of the natural environment.
