Bormio Footbridge

The cable-stayed footbridge has a single span of about 216 ft, is curved in plan and in elevation; the concrete precast deck is sustained by single mast, hinged at the base, height 115 ft.
The cable-stayed footbridge, with a single span of 66 meter length, overcomes the bed of the Frodolfo stream connecting the center of Bormio old town with Combo and the ski area. The deck, built with high-performance concrete in order to allow a minimum thickness of 25 cm, is curved in plan and with an arched profile in elevation and is supported by a 35m height single steel pylon hinged at the base.
The structure was assembled on site in 4 days without any temporary support, using 6 precast segments of 12 m length each and a monolithic steel pylon. Each segment is attached to the pylon by means of 4 spiral steel strands.
