Almo Collegio Borromeo - Female section
Year: 2006-2009 - Location: Pavia, Italy
University housing facility, female section; 50 rooms and common services; 36.000 ft².
The Female Section of the prestigious Collegio Borromeo was built next to the sixteenth-century building, within an irregularly shaped block surrounded by a masonry wall. The new volume, compact and set back from the curtain wall perimeter, is articulated in plan and elevation, approaching the historic environment of the neighborhood and with limited heights. The ground floor is covered with a particular stone quality and the first floor is treated with painted plaster.
The building is organized around a rectangular courtyard, the distribution paths for the 48 rooms, on two levels, look onto this courtyard. The common areas are mainly located in the entrance unit, next to the lobby. At the basement level have been placed garages and services.
